Colette Poirier discovered her passion for climbing in Western Quebec while attending the Outdoor Adventure Program with Algonquin College. Almost 15 years ago she was taken to a small granite crag and taught how to play safely in the vertical world. Since that first day, she has been hooked.
After falling in love with outdoor rock climbing, she began exploring her local climbing gym in the winter months and took up ice climbing on occasion. She also began working at the climbing gym and found another wonderful facet of the sport; teaching! After working at a few different climbing gyms she pursed her Top Rope Climbing Instructors course with the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides. Since becoming a member of the ACMG she has taught climbing course with Skytrek Adventure Park both on real rock and artificial walls to a variety of age groups in the Revelstoke area. She also travels BC & Alberta on contracts to instruct outdoor climbing.
Colette has climbed all over the world at many exotic climbing destinations. She is well practiced in all disciplines; she enjoys cool bouldering locations, sport climbs, adventures in alpine terrain, adores placing gear on trad routes as well as aids in routes setting and access issues.
Recently the far and foreign climbing trips have been a little less seldom as Colette has a 3 year old son Max and a one year old daughter Lily. Both of them like climbing a lot, at their home bouldering wall or at the local crags around Revelstoke where they call home.
Colette remains so excited about climbing, regardless of the context. Whether chatting about gear, teaching students, setting up top ropes for her kids or climbing outside, she is a wealth of knowledge and absolutely loves this sport!
