As a water-lover at heart, I could spend an entire lifetime making metaphors of the river to life. Jumping in a canoe to actually experience the sensation of “arriving” to the ocean (having flushed out from the lower Stikine after nearly two weeks on the water) was and is something that will forever remain beyond words. Instead of thinking too much about, just do as Amy Flexman does and jump at the opportunity to explore! It’s about "connecting outside." And in doing so, you find something so powerful, so beautiful, and so peaceful living within. As the famous quote states, “Individually we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”
The Stikine River is a place unlike anywhere I have ever been. It takes wilderness and remoteness to a new level for me. The changing landscape, beauty of the views and overwhelming wildlife is enough to leave anyone speechless and forever changed. The steadily flowing river through the arid Cassier Range into the lush Coastal Mountains and out onto the Pacific Coast, is a provider of endless opportunities for growth and reflection. From the time on the river to the endless number of camping spots along the way to the numerous unique and exciting features along the river, it is impossible to leave the Stikine without feeling like a new person. I have never experienced anything as beautiful and moving as the Stikine River and I am forever grateful for every perfect moment I had on it.Barry O'Doherty, Expedition Leader

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE ENTHUSIAST!
Amy puts the Flex in Flexpeditions! Amy is the owner, operator and lead guide and host of Flexpeditions. Amy has always had a love for the outdoors, teaching and sharing her passion and energy for life with those around her. She started her official guiding career on the Ottawa River 10 years ago on the Whitewater Intensive Leadership Development (WILD) program. Before WILD she spent numerous summers as a camp leader, resort recreation director, tree planter, earned her BPHE and BSc (Life Sciences) at Queen’s University, travelled to Australia, Malaysia and Thailand and settled on sticking in Canada to live for life!
Between whitewater expeditions in Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Costa Rica, Amy realized her desire to teach, earning a BEd from Nipissing University. She gained the Outdoor Director position at Rosseau Lake College and spent two full years educating grades 7 – 12 in Ontario’s Muskoka playground. She taught grade 10, 11 and 12 Outdoor Education, University Prep Exercise Science, Outdoor Leadership and designed two specialized Outdoor Leadership courses, one with a focus on EcoAdventure Discovery and multiple outdoor sports as well as mountaineering in Mexico, climbing North America’s 3rd highest peak, Pico de Orizaba. She also ran a March Break credit course to BC – focusing on Avalanche Awareness and Big Mountain Riding at Kicking Horse Resort in Golden, BC and Revelstoke Mountain Resort. In addition to teaching at RLC, Amy was integral in starting each school year preparing and planning and sending off 150 students and teachers on 7 different mini-outdoor expeditions around Ontario, as well as organizing multiple outdoor excursions for the students throughout the year – ski trips to Quebec, dog sledding in Algonquin park, weekend outdoor camps, and river explorations. The opportunities at Rosseau Lake College were great stepping stones in Flexman’s development towards her own outdoor education vision.
Amy has been privileged to work with some of the best mentors in the outdoor adventure industry – Jim Coffey of Esprit kicked it all off exploring 30 rivers with the WILD program, for which Amy later instructed, and many years guiding on the mighty Ottawa River in a busy day tripping environment, and represented Esprit down to Chile for river and sea kayak explorations. Brian McCutcheon of ROAM Adventures has provided guiding opportunities on the Chilko-Chilcotin-Fraser Rivers in BC, Yukon & Alaska’s Tatshenshini-Alsek River Expedition, Galapagos and Ecuador trips, Cariboo/Chilcotin and Nelson, BC multisport trips and many other exciting expeditions and adventures around the globe with ROAM. Alive Outdoors owner, Jal Bosley has also been instrumental in inspiring and helping Amy create Flexpeditions, through fall and winter outdoor education and leadership experiences with a variety of schools fro the Greater Toronto Area. Amy continues to guide for both the youth outdoor leadership camps and trips at Alive Outdoors and the multi-day expeditions at ROAM Adventures as she moves forward with her own ventures, including Jim, Brian and Jal in the adventures of Flexpeditions.
Jim, Brian and Jal are three of Amy’s mentors and guides, but she owes most of her credit to where she ended up to her parents, Joyce and Keith Flexman who have supported her and inspired her throughout life – hooking her at an early age on adventure, exploration, mystery road trips and the lesson that patience, respect, kindness and courage can go a long way in this world.
Amy has been skiing for over 30 years, on whitewater for 10 years, and exploring trails, streams, paths, swamps and forests for her life, finding her passions in the British Columbian mountains. After exploring the world through guiding and teaching she has settled in Revelstoke, BC where she and many others believe to be one of the best outdoor meccas in the world and a perfect base for Flexpeditions.
She is also the presenter of many great musical talents, sharing the music of many independent artists with her guests as one of her many Flexproductions weaves it’s way into some of the programs.Amy Flexman, Owner & Guide
